The B.A. (General) programme is a three year degree course under the 10+2+3 system of education. A person who has passed the +2 examination under 10+2+3 system of education of a recognised University/Board/Council or any other examination recognised by the P.U. as equivalent, with pass in English as one of the subjects shall be eligible to join the First Year class of B.A. degree course. However, a person who has not qualified English as one of the subjects at the +2 examination, shall be eligible to join B.A. I Year class provisionally subject to his/her qualifying the deficient subject of English from the parent Board/Body/Council/University in two consecutive chances subsequent to his admission, failing which his/her admission to B.A. I year class and the result for the examination shall automatically stand cancelled.

The students who are not domiciled in Punjab and have not studied Punjabi up to 10th class; wards of defence personnel and central government employees who are transferred on all India basis; and foreigners shall have the option to take History and Culture of Punjab (HCP) in lieu of Punjabi as compulsory subject in B.A., B.Sc., B.Com, B.C.A. and B.B.A., Classes.

B.A. (Hons.)
The college offers Honours in the following subjects: English, Hindi, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration, Geography, History and Psychology. The B.A. Hons. Course carries 28 credits (each credit carrying the equivalence of 100 marks). Apart from the structure of the programme of study prescribed for the BA (General) degree course, credit value of the subjects/papers and hours of teaching allocated to them, the honours course includes 4 papers of I credit each of an advanced nature in one of the elective subjects the student shall study in all the three years of the degree course.
A student may offer Honours in Second Year in anyone of the elective subjects mentioned above to be studied by him/her in all the three years of the Degree course. Provided that he/she has obtained at least 50% marks in the subject of honours in the First Year of the B.A. (General) Course.
No 'Failed' candidate shall be admitted in any of the courses. (The students whose admission forms were duly sent by the Department/College to the Controller of Examinations for appearing in the examination, but did not appear, or dropped the paper, will also be considered 'failed' students under University Rules).
A student of any other university who is placed in compartment in 1st year / 2nd year of B.A./B.Sc./B.Com/B.C.A./B.B.A. course is not allowed to join 2nd year or 3rd year course of Panjab University.
